Hang Time: The Niggaz’ I-Ching ist eine choreografische Meditation über das Abhängen und das Hängen: in der Luft, am Leben, am seidenen Faden. Braids hängen tief in den Nacken. Körper hängen in der Zeit fest. Körper hängen in der Zeit fest. Leben hängen voneinander ab. Zwischen Soca und Bouyon, Séance, Ritual und Gathering entsteht ein Zustand aus Gemeinschaft, Schwebe und Heimsuchung.

Ausgehend von Schwarzen und karibischen Erfahrungsgeschichten untersucht Marikiscrycrycry Trauer, mentale Gesundheit und die Bruchstellen männlicher Gemeinschaften. Cornrows und Braids erscheinen dabei als Schutz, Codierung und Spur – als Linien, die Orientierung geben, verbinden oder sich plötzlich in ein Seil verwandeln können. Hang Time bewegt sich in der Spannung zwischen Fürsorge und Gefahr, Überleben und Kontrollverlust. Die Performer*innen tragen einander, verlieren einander, halten durch. Die Arbeit bewegt sich durch Zustände von Erschöpfung, Zerfall, Beschwörung und Nachhallen. Sie fragt, was Gemeinschaft zusammenhält, wenn Verletzlichkeit keinen Platz hat – und was in der Luft bleibt, nachdem jemand verschwunden ist.

Hang Time: The Niggaz’ I-Ching is a choreographic meditation on hanging out and hanging on. Hanging in the air. Hanging in there. Hanging by a thread. Braids hanging low off the nape of the neck. Bodies suspended in time. Lives hanging from one another. Moving between soca and bouyon, séance, ritual, and gathering, the work conjures a state of congregation, suspension, and haunting.

Drawing from Black and Caribbean histories and lived experience, Marikiscrycrycry examines grief, mental health, and the fracture lines within masculine communities. Cornrows and braids emerge as protection, coding, and trace — lines that guide, bind, or suddenly resemble a rope. Hang Time moves within the tension between care and danger, survival and loss of control.

The performers carry one another, lose one another, and endure. The work unfolds through states of exhaustion, collapse, invocation, and reverberation. It asks what holds a community together when vulnerability has no place — and what remains suspended in the air after someone disappears.
